Hello Friends,
After a few years of research on hair transplant and specific medicines, I’ve had my first HT at Asuman Hair on 12 Feb 2025 (Pendik Hospital).
Travelled from UK, so my perspective might be slightly different to most on this forum as a foreigner. Hair loss runs in the family, from father to brothers (all NW 5-6 and beyond), I experienced loss from age 17 onwards. Wore hair systems for 5 years prior to HT.
Total grafts based on WhatsApp conversation prior to op was 4000-4500, although not sure on the exact figure as not shared by them nor did I ask.
My focus was front area and new hair line. They planted some in the crown/middle, this was not discussed/agreed prior to surgery, I only discovered after the operation but I’m not overly fussed about this, only concern I had on this approach is potential “over harvesting” in a single session. I plan to have 2nd HT next year for the crown/middle area, with use of some beard + donor area. And if donor allows, reduce hairline by 1cm (only if that is an option based on donor availability) without compromising density on main head areas.
General observations from Asuman (no use of machines or tools), back of head donor area is healthy, both sides have limited availability which aligns with my own observations and of other clinics during my research.
Medicines 2 months prior to HT:
Topical minoxidil (solution) twice daily, I plan to reduce to once daily after 1 year. Stopped a week before HT, will resume 20 days after. (Asuman said after 12 days is fine but I want to play it safe).
Oral Finasteride, once daily, will use indefinitely. Not noticed any symptoms to date. Stopped a day before, resume 5 days after. They said I don’t need to stop at all, but I made the decision based on own research around this medicine and various doctor’s opinions.
Vichy purple (daily) and green (every 3 days) shampoo. Will resume once all scabs have fallen out (so day 10+).
Evocapil biotin tablets, twice daily.
Now to the post-HT:
I’m on general temporary medicines to relieve pain and prevent infections, not going into detail here but reach out if you want to know anything specific.
Had my bandage removed and first wash (Day 1) at the clinic and Fito cream applied on donor area. So far, all good no signs of infection, pimples or major pain. Swelling has started towards the forehead and working down towards face and I’m not wearing any headbands, it was not recommended.

How is my donor area, is it over harvested?
Does the front of my head and hair line look dense and natural?
Is the hair line too high?

Also, they washed my hair a day after hair transplant, is this normal at Asuman? Most clinics recommend waiting at least 2/3 days before first wash. Someone please put me at ease on this.

Day 5 Update (after wash)
No issues encountered so far on scalp, thank god 🙏🏼
Extreme swelling occurred on Day 3 around eye (struggled to fully open them) and has now moved to the cheeks area and mouth, has reduced in size from Day 3. But I expected this and mentally prepared in advance so not worried. Although, hate being stuck indoors at the hotel lol, can’t really go out looking like this.
Crusts/scabs from donor area started to fall off today (Day 5).
Question: when does the pen markings on scalp disappear? It would be awkward to go through airport or out and about in general with those pen marks. Can I do anything to remove them?

My friend, everyone is getting transplants. Why are you waking up? There is no ugly image right now.
If you are so worried, wait until the scabs fall off.

lol not sure if it translated correctly, don’t fully understand what you mean but to confirm, I am not worried with my progress at all, if anything I’m happy. I’m sharing these updates for others to see, just like how other posts over the past two years that helped me get to this stage.
My silly question was on the pen marker lol, again not sure how Google is translating here.

I’m pleased with the view so far, can’t wait to see how it looks when it all grows out in 6 months time.

1-Month Update !!
Shedding started around Day 17 and continuing.
Medications:
Topical minoxidil (twice daily)
Oral finasteride (once daily)
Coraspirin (once daily for 30 days, only few left)
Evacapil (once daily, will stop when it runs out)
Photos above straight after shower (dry), no products applied.

3 - Month Update
Shedding continues, still losing hair during washing/minoxidil application.
Hair is very thin and sparse in appearance currently.

Asuman Hair is a really good clinic — I’m glad to see you did your research and chose a reputable place. I just wish everyone coming to Turkey for a hair transplant would take the time to research like you did, especially through forums like this one.
Unfortunately, many people end up going to cheap, unqualified clinics just because of the low price, and they end up disappointed or even worse — with bad results. If they actually did proper research, they’d realize that some of the world’s best hair transplant specialists are right here in Turkey.

For 4 months, it’s a pretty successful progress. In the hair transplant process, if you start growing your hair out, we’ll be able to see the development even better. Don’t cut it too short anymore, my friend — it’s looking great

Thanks guys! The look right isn’t like in reality but in photos looks great. I know it’s only 4/months and long way to go before any significant judgement can be made.
I do not plan to cut top of my head for next two months just to see how it turns out, I’ll continue to share here.

6-month update:
I haven’t cut hair on top since my last update.
Hair is very thin and not a great appearance overall at the moment, kind of what I expected from first session given how large of an area I had. Looks great now with hair fiber though, that’s a plus but somewhat tedious doing this everyday.
I can’t imagine this view getting much better in the next 6 months.
I’m now starting to think/plan for the second session, would appreciate your input on following:
How many more grafts would I need roughly to have better appearance overall (inc, the crown)?
How many grafts would be ideal to take from bear + head? To ensure head donor isn’t depleted
Any specific area of head I should suggest as ‘donor focus’ area?
Anything else I should be aware of or research before the second session with beard + head donor planning?

Hey mate, it seems like quite a progress to me. Not trying to gas but afaik seeing full results can take up to a year. It depends on multiple variables such as your metabolism, age, blood circulation, your hair structure. Especially in the vertex area, hair follicles tend to grow slower. You can consider increasing the dose of supplemental medication like minoxidil or finasteride if you want to speed up the process. But finasteride has side effects such as erectile dysfunction, low libido etc. not worth it imo. You should definitely consult your doctor before going for it. I can see this hair looking far better in 2 months, but that's my projection. Hairline looks natural. Donor area is immaculate. Nobody could tell you had an operation if you keep it a bit longer. Will follow your thread from now on. Good luck with your hair journey.
Edit: You can check Dr. Gary Linkov's take on hair transplant, hairline design, possible complications and post op medication on YT. It will be really helpful to make your decision for a second op and what to expect from it.

In my opinion, your hair transplant is progressing well considering your current donor area, and it will only improve over time. For an area with this kind of thinning, a second session is definitely necessary, and the final result will be much better. I also believe that with two sessions, you can achieve an excellent outcome.

for the crown, you need around 2500 graft. for the frontal and mid-scalp you will need around 2000. These are the numbers of fully coverage and according to 6 months results. Cuurent exisiting hair thickness will grow until 12 months and I except new hair (not too much) on the vertex area. So the number of grafts you need will decrease. You should use beard grafts around 1000 in the second operation.
